| Story about your Nominee: |
In 2004, Bernice Bronson started a nonprofit youth organization called Zena's House, (ZH). ZH provides tutoring, life-skills workshops and exposure trips to middle and high school students in South Atlanta. Zena's House is named after Bernice's sister Zena who passed away from lupus in 2002 at the age of 17. Some of our major accomplishments include: 1. Becoming a Supplemental Educational Service provider with the Georgia Department of Education for six years where we provided in-home tutoring to middle school students; 2. Taking hundreds of students on college tours since 2007. Colleges included Tuskegee, Alabama State, Albany State, etc. 3. Hosting several life-skills activities to include an entrepreneur workshop called What's Your Hustle? and 4. ZH took a group of students to Ghana, West Africa for Spring Break in 2009 to EXPOSE, EMPOWER and EDUCATE. We believe exposure breeds hope and hope breeds success!
